Squared Away
These are a collection of drawings I created with a black pen and Post-It notes. I try to draw one every day. Often times, I tweak the image in a photo editor for an artistic effect.

How this page works
Last updated: 12/26/2011The way this page displays all of the sketches is by looking at the files in a specific directory. The PHP script expects the files to be named in a specific way, according to the date of the sketch.
- YYYYMMDD.jpg: The full-resolution image of the sketch. For example, "20101211.jpg" is the full-resolution image for the sketch that was made on December 11, 2010.
- t_YYYYMMDD.jpg: The thumbnail image of the sketch (a "thumbnail" is a scaled-down version of an image). For example, "t_20101211.jpg" is the thumbnail image for the sketch that was made on December 11, 2010.
- YYYYMMDD.txt: A plain text file that contains a description of the image. This file is optional, so if it doesn't exist, then a description won't be displayed for the image. For example, "20101211.txt" is the description file for the sketch that was made on December 11, 2010.
By designing the script in this way, it makes adding new sketches very easy. All I have to do is drop the new files into the directory and the page is updated immediately.
It only displays the images for the current date and all past dates, ignoring images with future dates. This allows me to make drawings ahead of time and have the website automatically "release" them as each day passes.
